INSURANCE COMMITTEE MEETING-Ron Radigonda, Executive Director

-----------------------------------------------

The Insurance Committee met with representatives from Bollinger Insurance and Markel Insurance in Oklahoma City this past weekend to discuss our Insurance program for 2006 and beyond. The meetings were very productive. Bollinger and Markel will develop an individual insurance program for adults similar to our J.O. individual insurance program.

Our J.O. individual registration program that provides insurance coverage to the participants continues to grow and continues to be a superior option for our Junior Olympic Teams. Our individual insurance rates have been guaranteed by Bollinger and Markel though the 2007 season. The support of our insurance carriers to extend this highly attractive rate is greatly appreciated.

Now is the time for all association to convert their Junior Olympic teams to individual registration. In light of the medical crisis in our country and with so many individuals un-insured or under-insured our players and coaches can obtain accident and liability coverage at a very reasonable rate.

Please contact me if you have any questions regarding Junior Olympic Individual Registration. It is a tremendous program and it is one that each of our 88 local associations should participate.

JUNIOR OLYMPIC CHAMPIONSHIPS

-----------------------------------------------

Our Junior Olympic State Championships have been conducted. Some results are still coming in. Photos from the tournament will be posted on our web site, along with results as soon as we can gather all the information. www.newyorkasa.org

A special THANK YOU goes out to all commissioners/tournament directors for your continued support of our Junior Olympic program. Your hard work and dedication is recognized and appreciated.

2005 World Cup of Softball

-----------------------------------------------

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. --- From July 14-18, the World’s best softball teams will convene in Oklahoma City for the first ever World Cup of Softball. Highlighted by the three-time Olympic gold medal winning USA Softball Women’s National Team, the event brings a re-match of the 2004 Athens Olympic Games with the likes of silver medalist Australia and bronze medalist Japan. 1996 Olympic silver medalist China and the Canadian National team complete the field of five teams set for battle in the nation’s softball capital.

“This event is going to be incredible,” said three-time gold medalist Lisa Fernandez (Long Beach, Calif.) “By bringing in the world’s top teams, the competition is the best it can be not to mention the world’s top softball rivalries. Oklahoma City is the perfect stage for this type of event and with ESPN on board, it’s going to be a world class atmosphere.”

Announced today by the Amateur Softball Association, the National Governing Body of Softball in the United States, the World Cup is a round robin format with a page playoff system similar to the Olympic Games. The scheduled USA games will be broadcasted on ESPN and ESPN2 with tape delay and LIVE feeds.

“Softball has been a ratings winner for our networks and we couldn’t be more pleased than to feature the USA Softball Women’s National Team in one of the biggest events of the year” said Carol Stiff, ESPN’s Director of Programming & Acquisitions.

“With the success of Team USA and softball in the Oklahoma City area, we feel this event is a perfect fit,” said ASA/USA Softball Executive Director Ron Radigonda. “Much like the Women’s College World Series that’s contested every season at ASA’s Hall of Fame Complex, the World Cup will bring a national following of fans to Oklahoma City. We couldn’t be happier than to contest this inaugural event in our own backyard. Both the national and local media have been very receptive to the events creation and we are confident that softball fans throughout the United States will flock to Oklahoma City to support all of the countries.”

TICKETS ARE ON SALE NOW beginning at $10 for general admission, $15 for premium level tickets. Tournament books and group tickets for all ASA teams are also available for all six sessions at only $25 and $40 respectively. A new premium level ticket for the hard core fan ‘Ultimate Fan Zone’ - $250 for an All-Session reserved premium pass with individual seat assignment, a opportunity to meet Team USA after one of the games, a personalized jersey, player autographs, and more!

Tickets starting at $10 are available through www.softballoutlet.com by phone at 800-654-8337 and at the Hall of Fame Stadium Gift Shop office. Groups of 10 or more can call USA Softball at 800-654-8337 or obtain a group order form at softballoutlet.com.
