Contact: Mike McCrobie New York State ASA Director of Public Relations (315) 343-8749 mmccrobi@twcny.rr.com International Softball Federation Accepting Donations of Used Gear OSWEGO, NEW YORK—New York State Amateur Softball Association Commissioner Robert Farrell has announced his support and New York State’s participation in the used equipment drive currently being sponsored by the International Softball Federation. “Though our primary mission is promoting softball closer to home, the New York State ASA recognizes, especially in this Olympic year, that softball is a global game.” To that end, Farrell has endorsed the ISF initiative to help send used softball equipment to those less fortunate around the world. Farrell teamed with Pride Softball of Oswego to send three large boxes of equipment to the ISF recently, and challenges other organizations from around the state to do the same. The packages recently sent included catchers’ gear, batting helmets, softball caps, t-shirts, bats, and balls. According to the ISF, it has 124 member nations. These members are the softball federations/associations of different nations all over the world. Though many of these national federations/associations such as the United States (Amateur Softball Association - ASA), Softball Canada, Softball Australia and the Chinese Softball Association are very large and able to take care of themselves as far as equipment and facilities are concerned, the majority of their members are still developing the sport in their countries and struggle to afford equipment. “Through our many ISF Development Partners, we now send equipment to over 50 percent of our member nations, but we need your help too! If you have any used equipment--balls, bats, gloves, helmets, catching gear, equipment bags, and/or uniforms – we need it! No matter what condition this equipment is in, or how old you might think it is, we can always use it,” stated Cindy Bristow, the Director of Development of the ISF. Mike McCrobie, District 14 ASA Youth Commissioner for New York State has donated twice to the ISF drive. “It’s simple to donate equipment that might otherwise just end up in a dumpster because it’s outlived its usefulness to us, “ he stated. Just place used equipment, no matter the condition, in boxes and send it to Cindy Bristow, Director of Development; The International Softball Federation: 1900 South Park Road; Plant City, FL 33563.
